Because of the wetness of Scotland we mounted Schwalbe Extreme tires on the bicycles. We had Schwalbe Supreme's but in wet/muddy conditions they were no good. We taak a Travelrecorder by Qstarz, the bt-q1000x with us. It's a GPS receiver which records the trip and back home we can synchronize our pictures so we know were we took a specific picture. Very handy for people who take a lot of pictures (or with a bad memory).
We made a beautiful film. You can watch it here.
On the main roads there is traffic but people are very social. When they can not pas you they stay behind you and when they pas they go way around you.
Still it's the most fun to look for the most smallest roads on the map.
As you can see on the pictures and in the movie we had some nice weather. The first few days it was even hot. And there were lots of flowers.
This is not the Scotland we had in mind. We thought about rain and a rough landscape, we get lots of sun and a pleasant landscape. We also had some rain and even a hailstorm
The midges were only terrible on the campground in Fort William (movie at 4.40 min), but that was enough.
We used 2 maps by Ordnance Survey: Southern Scotland & Northumberland and Northern Scotland, Orkney & Shetland.
The scale is 1:250.000 and they are beautiful maps, it looks like 3D. To bad there are now citymaps on it, for that we used the Lonely Planet of Scotland.
